19 Apr Making Hay Makes Business Sense
The old saying “make hay while the sun shines” continues to have a lot of resonance with small business owners and entrepreneurs and seems timely now the sun is literally out and shining after so much grizzly winter weather for so very long. It makes us think of a number of our advertisers whose businesses are impacted significantly by the weather and what we can do to help them and you.
Seizing an opportunity while the chance exists is a no-brainer and a notion deeply ingrained in many a small business owner’s psyche. However, a little reminder does no harm and sometimes it’s hard to separate yourself from the day to day, to take a step back and think laterally and creatively to maximise and optimise your current and future positions.
With marketing hats on, creative business owners will consider how best to achieve the highest volume of big ticket sales while the going is good. If your business – like so many of our advertisers’ – is impacted by the weather, now is key to get the most for your business from the fine weather. So make sure you do the following:
- Answer calls, voicemails and emails promptly
- Know what your availability and prices are
- Plan ahead for site visits so you can strike while the iron is hot – have your calendar to hand to make multiple bookings if needed/appropriate
- Take marketing collateral with you when meeting prospective clients including testimonials and clear contact details
- Consider some sweeteners to seal the deal if needed, for example a loyalty scheme, a free lawn mow, a reduction on a complementary product or service and so on
We hear repeatedly about how our Local Directory magazines landing on doorsteps are what prompts customers to pick the phone up and get on to having their patios and paths cleaned, their windows cleaned, garden landscaped, lawns manicured and fascias cleaned or replaced. Although it seems obvious, the warmer weather enticing people into their gardens is a major catalyst for finally booking tradespeople in to make improvements and fix broken things around the house and garden.
Keeping your business name, contact details, USPs and brand identity front of mind and to hand during these key months is absolutely crucial for your business at this time of year so that you don’t miss out to a competitor. Remember the other saying (which tied in with yesterday’s London marathon and – which the eagle-eyed of you will have spotted – we posted on our social media) “Somewhere in The World Someone’s Training When You Are Not. When You Race Him, He Will Win.”
We can help advise you which area(s) to advertise in (see here for more details online), which size ad to choose, the position within each magazine and even arrange the design for you (a chargeable service).
