AMERSHAM was the launch pad for the first ever edition of Local Directory in October 2006 and it has been our privilege to serve this popular Buckinghamshire market town ever since, even basing our Head Office here.
Nestled in the Chiltern Hills, 27 miles (43km) north west of London and resolutely part of the London commuter belt (due to the presence of a Metropolitan Line station) Amersham is split into two distinctive areas: Old Amersham that sits in the valley of the River Misbourne and can date its origins back to Anglo Saxon times, and Amersham on the Hill (or “Amersham Town” or the “New Town” or even “Top Amersham” as the locals like to call it) which was created around the new railway station in the late 19th century.
During the 17th century and 18th century a key industry in the town was brewing, which may explain the presence of several quaint, olde worlde pubs and coaching inns in the Old Town. In addition to brewing, tanning, lace manufacture and brickmaking all had a prominent place in Amersham’s manufacturing past.
Having an abundance of attractive and diverse settings, Amersham has been used as a location for several films and TV dramas, including Carve Her Name with Pride, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Poirot, Midsomer Murders and Chucklevision, to name a few. Jennifer Worth RN RM, the British nurse and musician upon whose best-selling trilogy of memoirs about her work as a midwife the TV series Call The Midwife was based, was raised in Amersham.
The Amersham Local directory was the first magazine to be launched in October 2006. It is distributed in the HP6 & part HP7 areas, which include:-
